Mini Diggers for Foundations

Digging footings with a mini digger

Foundations mean digging trenches to a set width and depth, keeping the sides clean and the bottom level, ready for concrete. Digging depth and digging force are what count.

Our 1-tonne L1000 digs to 1.66 metres with strong bucket digging force, which suits footings for extensions, garden rooms, garages and small builds. For heavier or deeper foundation work done regularly, a 1.8-tonne machine gives more force and reach, with the option of a hydraulic thumb for moving spoil and materials. For tight domestic plots where access is the limiting factor, the 0.65-tonne L600 still handles shallower footings.

A quick-hitch lets you run a standard digging bucket for the trench and switch to a grading bucket to clean up and level, so the job goes from dig to ready-for-concrete with one machine.

Access, spoil and getting it right

The biggest advantage of a mini digger on foundation work is getting a machine to the trench at all. A compact machine reaches plots and rear gardens a larger excavator can't, without knocking through walls or fences. Its tight tail swing also lets it work close to boundaries and existing structures.

Think about where the spoil goes: a mini digger loads barrows, dumpers or a spoil heap easily. And check the digging depth against your foundation design before you buy, so the machine reaches the depth your build needs.

Frequently asked questions

Can a mini digger dig foundations?
Yes. A 1-tonne mini digger like our L1000 digs footings and foundation trenches for extensions, garden rooms and small builds, reaching around 1.66 metres deep with strong digging force. For deeper or heavier work, a 1.8-tonne machine gives more capability.
How deep can a mini digger dig footings?
Our 1-tonne L1000 digs to about 1.66 metres, which covers most domestic footings and foundation trenches. Always check your foundation design depth against the machine's maximum dig depth before choosing.
Is a mini digger good for tight building plots?
Very. A compact machine reaches plots and rear gardens larger excavators can't access, and its tight tail swing lets it work close to walls and boundaries, which is exactly what most extension and small-build footings need.
Are the machines new or used?
Every machine is brand new and built to order, not ex-hire or second hand. You get a clean history, no hidden wear and a full 12-month warranty from day one.
How much does a mini digger cost?
Because we sell factory-direct, prices start well below a comparable dealer machine. A micro digger sits at the lower end of the range, with 1 to 2-tonne machines costing more as digging depth and power increase. All prices include VAT and free delivery.
Do you deliver across the UK?
Yes. Every machine is delivered free to your door anywhere in mainland UK on a dedicated transport service, usually within 4 to 6 weeks, with updates the whole way.
Is finance available?
Yes. Finance options are available so you can spread the cost into manageable monthly payments rather than paying the full amount upfront. Get in touch and we'll talk you through what's available.
Can I add attachments?
Yes. Every machine is quick-hitch compatible with buckets, rippers, breakers, augers, thumbs and more, added at checkout so they arrive with the machine.
