Digging footings with a mini digger
Foundations mean digging trenches to a set width and depth, keeping the sides clean and the bottom level, ready for concrete. Digging depth and digging force are what count.
Our 1-tonne L1000 digs to 1.66 metres with strong bucket digging force, which suits footings for extensions, garden rooms, garages and small builds. For heavier or deeper foundation work done regularly, a 1.8-tonne machine gives more force and reach, with the option of a hydraulic thumb for moving spoil and materials. For tight domestic plots where access is the limiting factor, the 0.65-tonne L600 still handles shallower footings.
A quick-hitch lets you run a standard digging bucket for the trench and switch to a grading bucket to clean up and level, so the job goes from dig to ready-for-concrete with one machine.

Access, spoil and getting it right
The biggest advantage of a mini digger on foundation work is getting a machine to the trench at all. A compact machine reaches plots and rear gardens a larger excavator can't, without knocking through walls or fences. Its tight tail swing also lets it work close to boundaries and existing structures.
Think about where the spoil goes: a mini digger loads barrows, dumpers or a spoil heap easily. And check the digging depth against your foundation design before you buy, so the machine reaches the depth your build needs.
