Mini Digger for Demolition: Small-Scale Breaking Work
Small-scale demolition, such as an old garage, brick outbuilding, or a concrete slab that needs breaking out, is well within reach of a mini digger fitted with the right attachment, without needing to bring in larger plant.
Bucket vs breaker
A standard bucket handles pulling down lightweight structures like timber sheds or stripping out soft materials. For concrete, brick or block work, a hydraulic breaker attachment does the actual breaking, then the bucket clears the rubble once it is broken down to a manageable size.
Sizing for demolition work
A 1.0 to 1.2 tonne mini digger with a breaker attachment handles most domestic demolition, including garages and concrete slabs up to moderate thickness. Larger structures, thicker concrete, or jobs needing faster rubble clearance benefit from the extra power of a 1.8 tonne compact excavator.
Safety considerations
- Check for asbestos in older outbuildings before starting any demolition work
- Confirm building regulations do not require notification for the structure you are removing
- A breaker attachment adds significant vibration, so check the machine's rated capacity for the attachment weight
