Almost every mini and micro excavator on the market, including our full range, runs on rubber tracks rather than wheels, and this is a deliberate design choice rather than a limitation.

Why tracks dominate this size of machine

Rubber tracks spread the machine's weight over a much larger surface area than wheels would, which matters enormously when digging on soft ground, lawns, or recently disturbed soil. A wheeled machine of the same weight would sink or leave far deeper ruts, particularly in wet UK ground conditions.

Stability while digging

Tracks also provide a wider, more stable base while the boom and bucket are extended and under load, reducing the risk of the machine tipping or losing traction mid-dig. This is particularly important on sloped ground or when working close to excavated trenches.

Ground protection

Rubber tracks are far gentler on finished surfaces like driveways, patios or lawns than a wheeled machine would be, which matters if you are working in a garden or on a site where the surrounding ground needs to stay undamaged.

See our full mini digger range, all fitted with rubber tracks as standard, or read our landscaping guide for garden groundworks where ground protection matters most.
