1 Tonne Mini Digger Buying Guide
The 1.0 to 1.2 tonne mini digger is the size most UK buyers land on, striking a balance between digging power and the ability to still access most residential sites.
What it handles
With a dig depth of around 1.8 metres, this size reaches deep enough for septic tank installation, standard drainage runs and most extension footings, jobs that push beyond what a 0.6 tonne micro digger can reach. Bucket capacity of around 0.045 cubic metres also means faster progress on jobs involving significant spoil removal.
Access considerations
At around 930mm wide, this machine is noticeably wider than a micro digger, which can be the limiting factor on very tight domestic access. Most standard gates and reasonably wide side passages still accommodate it, but it is worth measuring your access before ordering if space is tight.
Who buys this size
This is the size most groundworkers, landscapers and general contractors settle on as their primary machine, since it handles the widest range of typical jobs without the access limitations of larger plant.
