12-Month Warranty Policy
Every Lion machine is covered by a 12-month parts warranty from the date of delivery. This page sets out, in plain terms, what the warranty covers and what it does not, so you know exactly where you stand before and after you buy.
Start a warranty claim →What the warranty covers
The warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship — in other words, parts that fail because of how they were made or assembled at the factory, not because of how the machine has been used. If a covered component fails within 12 months, we supply a genuine replacement part. Parts held in UK stock are dispatched immediately; anything not in stock is shipped by air, typically within 3-7 working days. Where hands-on help is needed, our nationwide service network can connect you with a vetted engineer who knows these machines.
- Manufacturing or assembly defects in major components: engine, hydraulic pump, motors and valves, drive and swing motors, and the electrical system.
- Structural defects such as failed factory welds on the boom, arm or chassis under normal, rated operation.
- Genuine replacement parts for any component that fails due to a covered factory defect.
- 12 months of cover from the date the machine is delivered to you.
What the warranty does not cover
Like every machinery warranty, this is a parts warranty against factory defects. It does not cover wear, damage, misuse or the results of missed maintenance. The following are not covered:
- Normal wear-and-tear items: rubber tracks, bucket teeth and cutting edges, pins and bushings, filters, belts, hoses, light bulbs and fuses.
- Consumables and fluids: engine oil, hydraulic oil, coolant, grease and fuel.
- Damage from misuse or overloading: prying, impact, operating beyond the machine's rated capacity, or using non-approved attachments.
- Lack of, or incorrect, maintenance: missed service intervals, failure to change filters and oil on schedule, or running contaminated or incorrect fluids.
- Contaminated or incorrect fuel: water, dirt or the wrong grade of diesel in the fuel system.
- Unauthorised modifications and aftermarket parts: non-genuine parts, wiring in aftermarket electronics, or repairs carried out by an unapproved third party without our agreement.
- Accidental, transit and environmental damage: damage after delivery, accidents, corrosion from neglect, or weather-related damage.
- Cosmetic items: paint, decals and surface scratches.
- Consequential losses: downtime, hire costs, lost earnings or other indirect costs.
Covered vs not covered, by component
| Component | Covered — factory defect | Not covered — wear / error |
|---|---|---|
| Hydraulic system | Internal pump failure at 300 hours due to a casting defect or improper factory assembly. | Hydraulic hose blowout caused by rubbing against rocks or using non-approved, high-flow attachments. |
| Undercarriage & tracks | Drive motor casing cracking along a weld line due to bad metallurgy from the factory. | Rubber track tearing or snapping from driving over sharp debris, kerbing, or normal tread wear. |
| Engine & fuel system | Head gasket blowout at 500 hours caused by a factory machining defect on the engine block. | Injector failure caused by water or contaminated diesel left in the fuel tank. |
| Boom & arm structure | Main boom weld splitting during normal digging within rated capacity limits. | Bent arm or cylinder rod from using the bucket to pry heavy concrete or overloading. |
| Electrical system | Instrument display failure or wiring harness short due to loose factory crimping. | Dead battery after 8 months, or blown fuses caused by splicing in aftermarket LED lights. |
Real-world scenarios
A contractor buys a 1.8-tonne excavator. At 450 operating hours, the hydraulic swing motor suddenly loses power and leaks fluid. Inspection shows a factory shaft seal was installed incorrectly during manufacturing, causing internal bypass.
Result: Covered. We replace the swing motor and seal under the 12-month warranty.
An owner brings in a 1.5-tonne machine at 800 hours with a seized hydraulic main pump. Testing the hydraulic oil reveals heavy metal shavings and dirt, along with no service records showing the required 250-hour hydraulic filter change.
Result: Denied. The failure was caused by contaminated oil and missed routine maintenance, not a factory defect.
Keeping your warranty valid
To keep your cover valid, the machine must be maintained and operated as intended:
- Follow the service schedule in your operator's manual, including oil and filter changes at the stated intervals.
- Keep records and receipts for servicing and parts.
- Use genuine parts and the correct grade of fluids.
- Operate within the machine's rated limits and use approved attachments only.
- Report any suspected fault promptly, before continuing to run the machine.
How to make a claim
If you think you have a covered fault, submit a claim through our warranty request form. Tell us your machine model, order number and a clear description of the issue. We'll assess it, and if it's covered, dispatch genuine replacement parts (typically within 3-7 working days) and connect you with our service network if hands-on help is needed.
